Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Vermont was the last state in the country to get a Target (Hawaii has 8!). To ensure we entered the community respectfully, we built Camp Target, an interactive and explorative pop-up experience.
Our strategy was to keep it authentic, approachable, minimize waste as much as possible, and give people a really warm and welcoming first touch to the brand. For many, they had never been to a Target and feared it would take jobs away from their local artisan community.
Every detail from quality giveaway items, local cider and donut companies, and even birch paper for leaf rubbing was considered. Many of the scenic pieces and leftover giveaway items were given to local homeless shelters, with the remaining items recycled through EcoSet. We did 9 events over 2 weeks as well as delivered over 40 care packages to hospitals, schools, police and fire departments, and other non-profits to thank the community for welcoming us.
